Gonna Find Some Animals…

28 01 2008

I’m not exaggerating one bit when I say that this is the most awesome thing I have ever seen. It’s so awesome I don’t even know what to say about it. I mean, come on. Giant transportation devices…shaped like realistic animals?! I want one! No wait, I don’t want one. I want one of each. It would come in so handy…maybe. And even the kiddies would enjoy it.

These are some of my favorites.

Mmmlaaaaar, I have a giant creepy eeeeeyeee mmmbllaaarrrghghghg.

If you didn’t click the link, then click on it! You’re totally missing out. There’s more pictures showing the amazing amount of detail and even a video showing that these things are the real deal.

A Gathering of Shades

25 01 2008

Lately it seems like I keep getting reminded of how much I like to draw. I decided to take a drawing class a couple years ago and it wasn’t bad at all. At first I thought I couldn’t draw one bit, but I kept at it and improved a lot. I quickly came to realize how much work it takes to finish something and consequently developed a great respect for artwork that I saw around me.

Sadly, with my lack of motivation, I stopped taking the classes. I still doodle in the margins of my notebooks though, faces mostly. Sometimes I’ll even pull out my sketchbook and practice for real. I’m still learning and improving. I really hope I can keep this up. The feeling of satisfaction that comes from finishing a piece is one of the best in the world, especially when it actually looks real.

My drawing teacher was big into realism. I think he instilled that in me, I usually don’t really enjoy drawings that don’t look realistic. Don’t get me wrong, I still have a great appreciation for a piece of art. I just feel like abstract pieces don’t hold as much value or talent. Anyway, enough about my snooty opinions. It’s about time I share some of my drawings.

My teacher really pushed us to do a lot of portraits. These are some of my favorites.

I finally go ambitious enough to come up with something of my own. This was inspired by the band The Snake The Cross The Crown, as you can see. I know I know, this isn’t real. However, the separate pieces in their own respect are real.

I eventually got really into architecture. These two turned out the best.

This one make me laugh because it looks crooked.

These are some anatomy sketches I’ve been doing. The proportions on the legs aren’t great on the first one, and the head sketch in the middle of the page is…horrible. But this was something I really enjoyed doing.

Knees

Looking at these, I’m seeing a lot of things that I need to add to and improve upon. I’m very tempted to go back over all of these and make the contrast more striking, add some detail, etc. And I really hate that swirly cloud thing on the snake one. I should take that out. I’ll share the finished products when I’m done. Yay!

Duel to the Death…Showtime vs. FX

21 01 2008

I just got the poo scared out of me, all thanks goes to my sis. She sent me this eery video earlier today.

Those of you who are fans of Dexter will enjoy it more. It was one of those things where I knew it was a joke, but my heart was pounding so hard and I wanted to cry by the time it was over I was so frightened. In spite of that feeling, it was quite funny really and I should have been able to piece the clues together before I even watched the video. Oh well.

The site that the video is from is promoting Dexter coming to FX. I have also heard that Dexter will be airing on CBS. Dexter is a Showtime series, I’d like to think of Showtime shows as rated R movies. There’s almost no standard to what Showtime will show, at least from what I can tell. Having said this, the inappropriate nature of this show is a big factor in the quality of it. I mean come on, it’s about a crazed serial killer! It wouldn’t be the same if it didn’t include the things that make it a Showtime show. So in my opinion, moving Dexter to a network channel and even a cable channel is a big downgrade overall. On the one hand, people with high standards or those who don’t get Showtime can now enjoy this marvelous series, which is great! However, the real experience will never be felt on those channels. That is a serious shame. Showtime totally wins this one.

How can you deny that face?

Sorry if I made you wanna cry.

After many weeks of relentless pleading from my sister, I’ve decided to continue blurging. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate posting. In fact, I love the finished product of a post. I’m just too lazy to remember to take pictures, write a whole post, and make it interesting. This shows the extent of my laziness. I’M TOO LAZY TO SIT A THE COMPY AND TYPE. Awesome. But I digress. Tonight I have something fairly interesting to write about, something that I’m quite proud of. Enjoy.

My current senior english teacher has been my favorite english teacher since I had her in 7th grade (she also teaches at the junior high). She’s fun and creative and pretty easy going. At the beginning of the semester, we had an assignment to come up with 50 adjectives about ourselves and then incorporate those words into a drawing that represents us. She even broke out the crayons. Did I mention this is a concurrent english class? This reminded me of something we would do in junior high. At the same time she’s a very inspiring teacher and does an excellent job at coming up with thought provoking subjects. I would really like to think that I’ve developed my writing process a lot this year, and it’s all thanks to her. But this post isn’t about my progress as a writer.

For the past couple of weeks she has been telling us about a feature film made by her son that had been filmed in our town. It’s called The Sinking of Santa Isabel. She is quite proud of it. Consequently, on the last day of the semester last week, she let us watch it. It was a low budget film, but I found it very charming. It’s the story about a guy named Webster, the friends he makes, and how he comes to live in a treehouse for the summer. We actually have yet to finish it because we didn’t have enough time in class, but I’m already smitten with this film. It was evidently shown at Slamdance and is making it’s way to bigger and better stuff. I’m rooting for it.

I’m quite positive that the music in the movie only added to my enjoyment. All of the music is Joe Purdy stuff. I had heard the name, but I wasn’t familiar with it. Throughout the movie I couldn’t get over how much I loved the songs. So I went home and sure enough, I’ve got some Joe Purdy on my compy! I’m quite relieved because I’ve been needing something to listen to in order to tear myself away from Yael Naim. I’ve been loving Yael’s album ever since the beginning of the year and I haven’t stopped since. It’s all I’ve been listening to. Joe Purdy, I love you.
